Bumper T-Aman yield makes Jamalpur farmers happy

Farmers of the district are happy getting bumper production of Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) this year.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said a total of 3,06,361 tonnes of T-Aman rice was produced in the district exceeding the production target. This year 17,020 tonnes additional T-Aman paddy was produced than the last year’s production.
The DAE office sources said due to favourable weather and availability of agricultural input farmers got additional production this year.
 Farmers cultivated three varieties of T-Aman like High-Breed, High Yielding Variety and local variety. After harvesting farmers got 82,237 tonnes of High Breed variety, 2,03,463 tonnes of High Yielding Variety and 20,661 tonnes of local variety.
 Of the total production, 85,860 tonnes was produced in Jamalpur Sadar upazila, 43,040 tonnes in Sarishabari, 47,378 tonnes in Melandah, 24,170 tonnes in Islampur, 20,778 tonnes in Dewanganj, 42,574 tonnes in Madarganj and 42,561 tonnes in Bakshiganj upazila.
 Samiul Haque Shamim, a farmer of Daudpur village in Melandah upazila, said he cultivated T-Aman on 10 bighas of land and got bumper production of the paddy. Deputy Director of DAE Nitai Chandra Banik said due to favorable weather farmers are getting good yield of Aman paddy this year.
Mustard cultivation target exceeds : The mustard cultivation exceeded its fixed target during the current Robi season in all the seven upazilas of the district.
As the favourable climatic condition is prevailing in the district, the cultivators are expecting an excellent production of the crops in the areas
Good production of mustard and its fair prices have been encouraging thefarmers to spread its cultivation during the last several years.
Easy cultivation and harvesting process and lower production cost is also a reason behind the popularity of mustard cultivation in the areas, Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said.
Deputy Director of DAE Nitai Chandra Banik said implementation of various incentive programmes and favourable weather have increased mustard cultivation here this year.
 Agriculture department disbursed incentive among 15,000 small and marginal farmers for increasing mustard production in the district. Under the incentive programme the department disbursed 15 tonnes mustard seed and 300 tonnes fertiliser among the farmers, he said.
According to the DAE office, a total of 31,806 tonnes of mustard is expected to be produced this year from 23,560 hectares of land in the district.
 This year farmers brought 1,060 hectares more land under mustard cultivation against the fixed target.
Farmers cultivated mustard on 6200 hectares of land in Jamalpur Sadar upazila, 4930 hectares in Islampur, 3750 hectares in Sarishabari, 3850 hectares in Melandah, 2720 hectares in Bakshiganj, 1200 hectares in Dewanganj and 910 hectares of land in Madarganj upazila.
