Farmers of the district are expecting a bumper production of Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) paddy in ten upazila of the district as they have already exceeded this year’s cultivation target of the crop.
Additional 12,495 hectares have been brought under the T-Aman paddy cultivation during the current season.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said a target was set up to cultivate the paddy on 1,22,205 hectares of land.
But, the farmers have successfully brought 1,34,700 hectares of land under the cultivation programme taking advantage of favorable climatic conditions and various farmers -friendly programs of the government, the sources said.
Besides, the government helped the farmers to run the T-Aman cultivation programme properly by distributing agricultural loan among them from all the state-run banks, the sources added.
Different state-run agencies including BADC and BCIC supplied improved quality Aman seeds, seedlings, fertilizers and other agricultural equipments at the door-steps of the cultivators to help them for cultivating the Aman paddy timely and properly.
Deputy Director of DAE Habibur Rahman informed that meanwhile, nearly fifty percent of ripen T-Aman paddy in the district has been harvested.
The yielding rate of different varieties of the T-Aman rice including Bina Dhan-7, BRRI Dhan-49, BRRI Dhan-32 and BRRI Dhan -52 was found 3.5 tonnes per hector in an average, Rahman said.
“Over 3.50 tonnes of T-Aman rice is expected to be produced in the district this year if the weather condition will remain favorable till the harvesting period”, the deputy director added.
