Wheat farmers of all the five upazilas in the district are happy as they got a desired output and fair prices against the crop during the current season.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) had set a target to cultivate wheat on 26,500 hectares of land with the production target of 79,100 tonnes of wheat.
The farmers got bumper production of wheat due to favourable climate condition, planting of heat resistant seeds and proper care of the field in right time, DAE sources said.
Sunil Kumar of Sabuspara village under Debiganj upazila said, he harvested 24 maunds of wheat from two bighas of land and the market rate of the crop now Taka 800 per maund.
He earned over Taka 19,000 spending Taka 4,000 from the land.
About 70 percent of wheat in the district has already been harvested and farmers are now busy husking those.
Debiganj upazila agriculture officer M Abdulla-Al-Mamun said availability of seeds, fertiliser, insecticide.
