Farmers of Bogra are expecting a bumper production of Boro during the current season as the weather condition and supply of necessary fertilizer are favorable in the district.
The farmers have already started harvesting of the prior planted paddy in most of the areas including char areas of Sariakandi, Sonatola and Gabtoly upazila of the district during the last week and they have already completed harvesting of nearly 40 percent the paddy.
Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension Chandi Das said, a total of 2, and 56,123 hectors of land have been brought under the cultivation with the production of about 8,24,397 tonnes of paddy if the weather remain calm. But, the cultivators could bring 1, 53,565 hectors of land under the cultivation exceeding the fixed cultivation target. So, the production of the paddy would be much higher than the fixed target, he added.
Crops specialists of DAE said the Boro cultivators are getting maximum yield of the paddy in elsewhere of the district as the climate remained favorable during the whole season and the farmers were inspired by the field-level agriculture officials to take modern cultivation methods for boosting the production by reducing the production costs.
A farmer Saiful Islam of Gunaher village under Dupchanchia upazila said, “We are expecting desired yields due to favorable climate, proper irrigation and supply of quality seeds, fertilizers, electricity, insecticides, proper care and monitoring by the concerned officials.” Manager of Chapapur Rajshahi Krishi Unnayon Bank Azizul Haque said, “We have distributed special Boro crops loan among the cultivators to make the cultivation programme success.” he added.
