Bumper production of bean has been achieved at Gafargaon under Mymensingh this season.
The large crops-field at Charalgi and Tangabo Union of this upazila attracked the villagers and the green field is covered with the pageantry of red and white flowers.
The farmers plucked bean from the fields and go to the market for selling bean in the morning. After selling bean, they buy goods and come back home. This is the constant work for everyday. The farmers of this area are being benefitted by cultivating bean because market price is fair more than any other crops. Each farmer has got profit of TK 70 to 75 thousand by per acre without spending money. Their socio-economic condition has been changed by cultivating bean for the last year.
Charalgi and Tangabo unions are called the union of bean at Gafargaon Upazila. Besides , bean is cultivated at Datterbazar and Panchbag union. Bean is favourite in winter season. Bean has been cultivated commercially in Char Moslanda, Kachari Para, Charalgi, Noyapara, of Charalgi union, Bakhali, Bashia and Tangabo villages of Tangabo union, Charshankhchura, Khurshid Mahal and Gavishimul villages of Panchbag union .
The cultivation of bean has a reputation in this area traditionally for a long time.
Agriculture Office said , bean has been cultivated on 150 hectares of land in this current season. Farmers cultivated local, Nolduk and hybrid bean in this season. Almost 200 farmers are involved in cultivating bean. They get much profit by cultivating bean. Farmers Jibon Mia , Saidul Faraji, Badal Faraji, Jalal Mea, Majibor, Rosum Uddinof Charmoslonda Kacharipara, afaj Uddin of Charalgi Noyapara, Liakot, Ajim Uddin, MohsinKhan of Bamon khali village informed , they cultivated bean at the very beginning of winter season . TK 18 to 20 thousand is spent for one acre land . At least TK 80 to 90 thousand will be benefitted by selling bean from this land in the current season.
Gafargaon Agriculture Officer SM Farhana Hussain informed, the lands of Charalgi, Tangabo, Datterbazar and Panchbag union of this Upazila is very suitable for vegetable cultivation. Being profitable the farmers of this area cultivate vegetable in this season. Besides bean ,brinjal, Korola, Pumpkin, Snake-gourd, gourd Lady’s -finger radish calery are cultivated in this region.
