Bumper production of Aman paddy in Gaibandha

Farmers of all the seven upazilas in the district are expecting a bumper production of transplanted (T) Aman paddy during this current season.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) set a target of cultivating T-Aman paddy on 84,371 hectares of land in the district with an estimated output of 2,22,767 tonnes of rice.
The cultivation target was fully achieved after blissful rainfall though the transplantation of seedlings was hampered at the middle of the season due to a drought like situation.
Later, the target fixed by the department was exceeded and the paddy was farmed on as many as 1, 24,105 hectares bringing more 39,734 hectares under cultivation till September 15 by virtue of a favorable climatic condition.
The transplanted seedlings of the paddy have already grown well. The scenario of the green paddy fields is being turned into yellowish look. The growers are so much busy nurturing the paddy field with the hopes of getting desired production of the crops this season.
In order to make the cultivation programme a grand success, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) distributed high quality Aman seed to the farmers at fair prices.
Additional deputy director (Crop) of DAE Showkat Osman said favorable climatic condition, proper distribution of high quality seed of BADC and timely supply of fertilizers and other agri-inputs to the growers are the reasons behind the expectation.
DAE also continues training programmes to the farmers for adopting modern technologies of paddy cultivation, crop management and preservation of quality seed, he added.
Amir Ali, an ideal farmer of Putimari area under Shagahata upazila, said they were expecting a bumper production of Aman paddy this year due to favorable climatic condition and availability of agri-inputs at fair prices.
Talking to the BSS, deputy director of DAE AKM Ruhul Amin said availability of fertilizers and other agri inputs have been ensured during the current Aman season to help the farmers grow T-Aman paddy successfully.
