Harvesting of T-Aman begins: Bumper output expected in Gopalganj

Farmers of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila in the district start harvesting of their Transplantation Aman (T-Aman) paddy with the hope of achieving a bumper production from it this current season.
Amirul Sheikh (60) a farmer of village Nilokhi of Durgapur union under Sadar Upazila in the district told The New Nation I have cultivated Aman Paddy (ropa) on two acres (200 decimal) about local four bighas of land this current season. Where spending taka 32,000 but I will got 80 maunds of paddy from it produce, which current market price is taka 50,000.
Belal Hawlader (48) another farmer of village Goshgati under Borashi union of Sadar upazila in Gopalganj said, he cultivated T-Aman paddy (Bona) three acres about local six bighas (200 decimal) of land this current year but growth condition is good and I will got about 120 maunds of paddy from it produce, which market price is taka 72,000 Belal said.
According to Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Office sources said, a total of 8,500 hectors of land have been brought under T-Aman farming including Bona & Ropa this current year. Where Bona 3,500 hectors and Ropa 5,000 hectors and production target about 26,435 metric tonnes (MT). Where about 35,500 farmers involved this farming, this year sources said.
Baka Mollah (50) a farmer of village Golabaria under Durgapur union in Sadar upazila told The New Nation he cultivated Aman (Bona) on five acres of land about local ten bighas (520 decimal) where spending about taka 80,000 and I will got about 200 maunds of paddy from it produce, where market price is taka 1,20,000 and one stage Baka said, the paddy harvesting already begings in this acres from one week back, he added.
Sekender Sheikh, Upazila Agriculture Officer (UAO) Sadar told The New Nation the production condition of T-Aman including Bona & Ropa is brightly farmers in this region are more happy due to boost production of Aman paddy this current year. But we are timely continuing monitoring on the crop and searing to the farmers for success on the crop, UAO said.
Aman paddy procurement drive begins
BSS from Gaibandha adds: Aman paddy procurement drive with a target of 13,404 tons of paddy began in the district on Tuesday .
Whip of the Jatiya Sangshad Mahabub Ara Begum Gini formally inaugurated the drive as chief guest at a function, organized by the department of food at the premises of Local Supply Depot (LSD), at Khankasharif area recently.
With Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Alamgir Kabir Saikat in the chair, the function was also addressed among others by District Controller Food Zahirul Islam and General Secretary of Bangladesh Krishak League, district unit, Dipok Kumar Pal.
Deputy Director Of Department of Agriculture Extension Masudur Rahman, GS of Bangladesh Awami League, district unit, Abu Barkar Siddique, and Mayor of Gaibandha municipality Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon were present as special guests.
Whip of the Jatiya Sangshad Mahabub Ara Begum Gini in her speech said the farmers friendly government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina remained beside the farmers and would remain beside them in future too . “Considering the interests of the farmers, the government took the decision to procure paddy from the farmers so that they are economically benefitted” the whip said.
The Whip also urged the food officials and the staff to procure paddy from the farmers without any harassment and slander.
Later, the whip formally inaugurated the drive through cutting a red tape and purchasing paddy from the farmers as chief guest.
District food office sources said as many as 13,404 metric tons of Aman paddy would be procured from the farmers through 11 purchasing centers at a cost of TK 26 per kilogram of paddy , sources said.
