Bumper mango production expected in Rajshahi, C’nawabgonj

Officials and experts are expecting excellent mango production as tender mangoes are being formed now under favorable climatic condition so far everywhere in Rajshahi and Chapainawabgonj districts.
The local and indigenous variety mangoes are expected to appear in the local markets by May next while the imported ‘Sundari’ and other varieties Indian mangoes by the next month, mango growers and market sources said.
According to the officials and experts in the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI) and agronomists, over 85 percent mango trees have bloomed during this ‘On Year.’
Additional Director of the DAE Nurul Amin said the officials and experts of the DAE have been providing all necessary astatines to the farmers, who are now very busy in taking extensive care for excellent mango production after massive budding this season.
Horticulture specialist Dr Saifur Rahman of DAE said the fruit setting stage is on the final stage and the mango tress have started wearing eye-catching looks in orchards and homesteads with huge tender mangoes amid favourable climatic condition now.
Dr Abdul Ali, senior scientific officer of Fruit Research Center told BSS that the farmers have contacting with the officials and experts and taking extensive care to make the tender mangoes grow better.
He suggested the farmers to contact with the concerned field level officials for proper nursing of the mango trees at this stage and control attacks by hoppers and other pests for better mango production.
Dr Alim predicted bumper mango production following massive blooms and better fruit setting now if climatic condition, fluctuation in temperature, rainfall, attack by pests and insects remain within limit in coming weeks.
According to the DAE sources, there are about 30 lakh mango trees of different ages and varieties on some 32,816 hectares in the region with creation of many more new mango orchards and increased mango farming in the homesteads in recent years.
