Bumper jute production has brought smile on the faces of farmers of all the ten upazilas in the district as they got fair price for the crop in the current season.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officials here said, the farmers were cultivate jute on 4,817 hectors of land in ten upazilas of the district this year due to favorable climate condition and different farmers friendly programs taken by the government.
34,555 bales of jute were produced in the district this year, DAE sources said.
Many farmers had shown their keen interest for cultivating jute on their farm land including all of their fellow lands this year as the government ensured proper supply of fertilizer, improved quality seeds and insecticides at fair prices at the door-steps of the jute growers to help the cultivators for boosting jute production, deputy director of DAE M Habibur Rahman said.
Apart from this, the state-run commercial banks including Bangladesh Krishi Bank disbursed bank loans among the jute growers for making them capable for smooth running of their jute cultivation network in the district.
The crops specialists and grass-root-level officers of DAE also rendered field-level service to let the jute growers know about the modern methods of jute cultivation for boosting jute production as well as collecting improved quality jute fibers reducing the production costs, he said.
Talking to BSS correspondent, many jute growers of the district have expressed their feelings of happiness and gratitude to the government for taking many farmers-friendly programs.
Jute growers of the district were highly benefitted during the regime of the present government as they got better market prices of their jute fibers.
