Bumper Haribhanga mango production expected in Rangpur

The Haribhanga mango trees across the district have been replete with fruits and assumed a captivating eye catching look, making the cultivators delighted.
Haribhanga has been cultivated on around 3,550 hectares of land this season in the district. Harvesting of the mango is expected to begin from the end of this month and it will continue till July next. If the growers can earn at least Tk 5 lakh from per hectare of land from its sale, they could make a total profit of more than Tk 70 crore this year, sources also said.
The mango is being cultivated plentifully at many areas including Podaganj, Baluamasimpur, Santospur, Zarullapur, Khoragachh, Paikarerhat, Rukniganj, Shukurerhat, Fulchouki, Tilokpara, Kashimpur, Ucha Balua of Mithapukur upazila. Nagerhat, Chowpothirhat, Kanchabari, Baroghoria, Kutubpur, and Mandalpara under Badarganj upazila, Palichora, Ramjiban under sadar upazila, sources said.
Abdus Salam Sarker, a Haribhanga mango cultivator of Podaganj village at Mithapukur upazila said farming of this variety of mango has become a blessing for the people under the region. Hundreds of people in the region have brought significant changes in their socio-economic condition through farming of the mango in recent years, he further said. He said during last several years he could earn a profit of Tk 20 lakh to Tk 25 lakh from the sale of Haribhanga produced in his orchards. This year he is also expecting good profit as well.
According to Department of agriculture Extension (DAE) D, Sharaul Huq sources due to growing demand its cultivation is on the rise in the district and its adjacent areas. One of the advantages of this mango is that it can be cultivated on both high and low land areas. Hundreds of rural people of the region have already changed their financial condition through farming of the mango in recent times, sources added.
