Bumper garlic production expected in Natore

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) and farmers are expecting a bumper garlic production in seven upazilas of the district during the current season.
DAE office sources said farmers cultivated garlic on 25,800 hectares of land exceeding the official target of cultivating on 20,000 hectares with the production target of over 1.5 lakh tonnes.
The marginal farmers and concerned officials of DAE are expecting a satisfactory price and production of garlic in the district in the current season and DAE has provided fertilizers and arranged a brief training for the farmers, a DAE official said.
Upazila-wise breakup of the land is 13,090 hectares in Barigram upazila, 7,700 hectares in Gurudaspur upazila, 2,350 in Sadar upazila, 1,230 in Singra upazila, 800 hectares in lalpur upazila, 380 hectares in bagatipara upazila and 250 hectares in Naldanga upazila of the district.
Tofajjol Hossain, a farmer of Tirail village under Gurudaspur upazila has cultivated garlic on 10 bighas of land. Garlic plants are developing well due to favorable climate condition, he said hoping that there would be bumper garlic production this year.
Baraigram agriculture officer Iqbal Ahamed said there might be bumper production of garlic this season if climate remains favorable.
Necessary steps have been taken to ensure supply of adequate quantity of improved quality seeds, fertilisers, insecticides and other agricultural inputs among the growers to boost the production, he said.
