Bumper egg-plant production expected in Dupchanchia

Farmers of different villages under Dupchanchia upazila of Bogra district are happy as they are making good profit by cultivating egg-plant in the current season.
The farmers of the area are showing more interest to grow egg-plant in their own cropland for few years due to its good market price and bumper production, said farmer Shahidul Islan,34, at Gunaher village under the upazila. Upazila Agriculture Officer Golam Mostfa said, Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) arranged a training programme on how to grow more egg-plant within very short time effectively here in the upazila.
Yakub Ali, 43, at Kuraher village village of the upazila told The New Nation that he brought 23 decimal of land under cultivation of egg-plant this season and earned Taka 10,000. He is expecting more dividends during the remaining part of the season.
Many farmers of the upazila and other parts of the district have become able to overcome the curse of poverty by growing different varieties of vegetables including egg-plants.
Another farmer Hafizar Rahman, 56, at Banduria village said, “I cultivated egg-plant on 12 decimal of his land and he does not use any insecticide to produce brinjal and other vegetables.
He again said they use pheromone trap which help vegetables remain healthy, tasty and nutritious. Besides, eggplant is also being cultivated abundantly in different upazilas of the district by using eco-friendly pheromone trap instead of harmful pesticide.
According to DAE sources, cultivation of eggplant has increased in recent times in the region as it has become more lucrative than the cultivation of other crops. Encouraged by good profit a large number of farmers in the upazila are cultivating it and are becoming financially solvent, sources added.
