Bumper Boro production in M’singh likely

Harvesting of Boro paddy is going on in full swing in Mymensingh district now.
Farmers and Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) are expecting a bumper production of Boro this year.
DAE office sources said 2, 65,164 hectares of land were brought under the Boro cultivation exceeded the target of 2,59,671 hectares of lands in 13 upazilas of the district this year.
Of the total cultivated land, HYV in 36,135 hectares of land, upshee 22,8, 833 hectares of land and local variety in 196 hectares of land. Sources said yielding rate of harvested Upshee variety paddy on an average 4.20 tonnes and HYV 5.20 tonnes.
DAE sources said the Boro cultivators are getting maximum yield of the paddy in elsewhere of the district as the climate remained favorable during the whole season. Besides, quality seeds, proper distribution of fertilizers and other necessary agri-inputs and proper monitoring and advices of the field-level agriculture officials under the concerned department have played vital role behind the expected yields, the sources added.
The DAE sources further said over 80 per cent land has already been harvested. Among the cultivated land, 1, 99, 995 hectares of land in
Mymensingh sadar upazila, 19, 642 hectares in Muktagacha upazila, 21, 200 hectares in Phulbaria upazila, 20, 950 hectares in Trishal upazila, 18, 865 hectares in Bhaluka upazila, 20,700 hectares in Gafargaon upazila, 22, 150 hectares in Nandail upazila, 21,010 hectares in Ishwarganj upazila, 20, 970 hectares in Gouripur upazila, 23, 050 hectares in Tarakanda upazila, 22, 057 hectares in Fulpur upazila, 21, 065 hectares in Haluaghat upazila and 12, 303 hectares of land in Dubaora upazila.
