Farmers of all the 13 upazilas of the district are expecting a bumper production of Boro paddy during the current season.
Harvesting of the paddy has been continuing in full swing in the district with an excellent yield rate.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said a total of 2,65,164 hectares of land have been brought under Boro cultivation in the district by exceeding the target of 2,59,671 hectares of land this year.
The production target of the paddy this year is over 10, 20,000 tonnes of rice, the sources said. Of the total, farmers cultivated High Yielding Variety (HYV) of Boro paddy on 36,135 hectares of land Upshee variety on 2,28,833 hectares of land and local variety on 196 hectares of land .
DAE sources said favorable climate, quality seeds, proper distribution of fertilizers and other necessary agri-inputs, proper monitoring, necessary advice of the officials and field level employees of the concerned department are the main reasons behind the expected yields.
Over 90 parcent lands have already been harvested and rest of the land would be harvested within a very short time.
Of the total cultivated land 1,99,995 hectares in Sadar upazila, 19,642 hectares in Muktagachha, 21,200 hectares in Phulbaria, 20,950 hectares in Trishal and18,865 hectares in Bhaluka upazila.
Besides, 20,700 hectares in Gafargaon, 22,150 hectares in Nandail, 21,010 hectares in Ishwarganj, 20,970 hectares in Gouripur, 23,050 in Tarakanda, 22,057 hectares in Fulpur, 21,065 hectares in Haluaghat and 12,303 hectares in Dubaora upazila.
