Dupchanchia (Bogura) Correspondent :
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) of Dupchanchia Upazila under Bogura district is expecting a bumper production of Boro paddy output, a high value crop, during the current season.
Favourable climatic condition, proper distribution of high quality seed of BADC and timely supply of electricity, fertilizers and other agri-inputs boost bumper yield, said Upazila Agriculture Officer Golam Mostafa.
The target fixed by DAE a total of 28,000 hectares of land under the Boro rice cultivation this year with the production target of 27,000 tonnes of clean rice, he also said.
Meanwhile, the commercial banks including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) have disbursed easy term loan facility among the poor and the marginal farmers during the season to make the cultivation programme a grand success.
While visiting some areas of the district the correspondent found that the early variety of Boro paddy including BIRI-28 farmed on the low land has started ripening and the paddy gives the farmers a symptom of desired output.
Saiful Islam, a farmer at Gunaher village under Dupchnahcia upazila, said he has cultivated boro rice on five bighas of land this year and expected a bumper production as it grew very well on the land.
He also believed that the farmers would get fair prices against their high value crop this year by taking necessary measures by the agriculture friendly government.
Sub-assistance agriculture officer Faridur Rahman said the harvest of Boro paddy would start in the upazila at the end of the current month in a full swing. The farmers are to face with great trouble during harvesting period owing to labour shortage, he added.
