The bullet-riddled body of a municipality-level leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, was found along Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Sitakunda upazila on Sunday morning.
Victim Mosharraf Hossain, 27, was the president of Sitakunda municipality unit of Shibir and a resident of Kedarkhil village of the upazila, reports our Chittagong correspondent quoting Rabiul Hossain, secretary of Chittagong (North) district unit of the organisation.
Rabiul claimed that the member of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) picked up Mosharraf from his sister’s house in Mithachhara village in Mirsharai upazila of the port city early Saturday. The elite forces however refuted the claim.
Mofizul Islam, assistant director of RAB-7, told The New Nation that they had no information about the detention.
Locals first spotted the body lying beside the highway near Chhoto Darogahat
area in the upazila and informed police.
On information, police went to the spot and recovered the body around noon, said Iftekhar Hassan, officer-in-charge of Sitakunda Police Station.
Two bullet injury marks were found on the head and chest of the victim’s body, OC Hassan added.
