Bullet-ridden bodies of three youths, who were abducted from Natore sadar upazila on Saturday night, were recovered from Ghoraghat area of Dinajpur district on Monday morning.

The three youths were identified as Jubo League leader Redwan Sabbir, 25, son of Sona Miah, and JL activists Abdullah, 27, son of Lutfor Rahman and Sohel Rana, 26, son of Kalu Miah hailing from Natore sadar upazila, police said.

Riding two microbuses a gang of 16 unidentified miscreants wearing mask and in plainclothes picked up the ill-fated youths from a tea stall at Tokia Bazar in Natore sadar upazila while they were gossiping there at about 11:00pm on Saturday, police said.

Police said before picking them up, the gang members also beat them up indiscriminately.

When contacted Md Hamidul Alam, Superintendent of Police of Dinajpur district yesterday said locals spotted the bodies lying in a pool of blood on the roadside at Baran Shah Dighi of the district at about 8:00am while passing by the area. They then informed the police.

“Later police recovered the bodies of three youths with bullet wounds on forehead from Baran Shah Dighi area at about 9.30am. To ensure the youths’ death, the criminals shot them at their foreheads,” he said.

Ishrafil Alam, Officer-in-Charge of Ghoraghat Police Station, said police recovered the bodies and sent them to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

The families of the deceased alleged that they had gone to police and the elite force — Rapid Action Battalion — to rescue them on Saturday night. However, the law enforcers failed to provide them any information about the abducted youths.

Rokhsana Begum, mother of Sabbir, had filed a missing diary with Natore Police Station on Sunday.

Mizanur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Natore sadar Police Station, said at least 12 cases, including murder, were filed against Redwan Sabbir while three against Sohel Rana with the police.

“However, Abdullah was not wanted in any case. They might have been murdered due to intra-party feud and establishing supremacy in their area,” he said.

Meanwhile, Jubo League unit of Natore district at a press conference on Monday demanded immediate arrest of the killers.

“We feel pain and sorrow as we have to see some criminals murdered our leader and workers in cold blood. The criminals in a planned way killed them. We want justice,” said Abdur Razzak, President of Jubo League, Natore municipality unit.
