The 14-party leaders at a rally underscored the need for building a social movement against women and children repression with a view to eliminating all evil forces from society.
“We will have to resist repression against women and children at any cost. If we can eliminate all evil forces in the upcoming Mujib Year, the observance of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary will become successful,” Awami League Advisory Council member Amir Hossain Amu said.
He said this on Sunday while addressing a rally titled “Sheikh Hasina’s directives, Bangladesh will resist repression against women and children” at Shikha Chirantan at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in the city.
Chaired by 14-party spokesman and AL Presidium Member Mohammed Nasim, it was addressed by AL Presidium Members Begum Matia Chowdhury and Shajahan Khan, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President Hasanul Haq Inu, Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua, AL central leaders Mofajjal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Bir Bikram and Advocate Qamrul Islam, State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hassan, AL Women Affairs Secretary Meher Afroj Chumki, Dhaka City South AL President Abu Ahmed Mannafi, Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendro singer Rafiqul Islam, BMA President Dr Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin, former lawmaker Sarah Begum Kabari and Jatiya Party (JP) Secretary General Sheikh Shahidul Islam, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Begum Matia Chowdhury said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government has been implementing different multifaceted measures to establish rights of women.

In his speech, Mohammed Nasim urged BNP to take part in Mujib Year programmes admitting their previous mistakes in instigating politics of vengeance by cutting birthday cake on August 15, the martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He called upon all to build social resistance against repression of women and children.
Nasim said during the tenure of the AL government, repression against women and children cannot be tolerated by any means.
“We have to get rid of this menace by any means,” he said.
He also demanded ensuring quick trial in the cases of women and children repression to award exemplary punishment to culprits.
