Awami League presidium member and road, transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday urged party leaders and workers to forge unity under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina against the communal bigots and militant outfits.
“Awami League is not anxious about BNP’s movement at present . . . It has become a key challenge to Awami League to resist the communal bigots and militant outfits,” he said while speaking at an extended meeting of Dhaka City unit of AL ahead of the Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day on January 10.
He said no vicious circle would be able to do any harm of AL, if AL men remain united under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Referring to BNP’s political strength, Quader said BNP has already proved in last seven years that it had lost its ability to launch any movement against the present democratic government.
The senior ruling party leader called upon party men to make successful the public meeting at Suhrawardi Udyan as part of marking the Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day.
Speaking on the occasion, AL joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said people in the meantime retaliated the BNP’s anti-state conspiracy through voting Awami League candidates in recent municipality and also Upazila Parishad polls.
He was also very critical of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia about the controversial role to oppose the January 5 general election in 2014.
President of Dhaka city AL MA Aziz chaired the extended meeting. AL joint general secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak,MP, AL office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, labour affairs secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, relief secretary Faridunnahar Laily, information and research secretary Advocate Afzal Hussain, City AL general secretary and disaster management and relief minister Mofazzel Hossain Chowdhury Maya and Dhaka city AL joint general secretary and food minister advocate Qamrul Islam, among others, were present in the meeting.
