President urges Alem-Ulema: Build awareness against Islam’s misinterpretation

President Abdul Hamid on Wednesday urged alem-ulema to build awareness among people so that no quarter can misinterpret Islam to serve its evil interest.
The President came up with the call when a 15-member delegation of Jamiatul Ulema, led by its chief Maulana Farid Uddin Masud, made a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban. Abdul Hamid said Islam is a religion of peace and there is no place for terrorism and militancy in Islam.
President’s press secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting. The President also urged alem-ulema to take a firm stance against militancy and terrorism through taking up mass awareness.
The delegation apprised the President of their steps and programmes against militancy and terrorism.
They informed the President that they are working to create awareness among people through proper interpretation of Islam. They also noted that they are pursuing for a coordination of madrasah education with modern education system.
They sought the President’s cooperation for massive publicity, especially in electronic media, so that no one is misguided through the misinterpretation of Islam.
The delegation handed over the 30-part fatwa, which was signed on June 18 last by one lakh Islamic scholars, against militancy. Secretaries concerned of the President’s Office were present on the occasion.
