The students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) staged demonstration protesting a political programme organised by former Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders that’s held at BUET cafeteria on Saturday.
The agitating students staged the demonstration in front of cafeteria while the former BCL leaders’ programme ongoing. After the program, when the ex-BCL leaders come out face the students’ wrath.
Buet administration banned political activities of all organisations on the university campus on October 11, 2019 following the brutal murder of its 2nd year student Abrar Fahad.
“We came to pay tribute to Bangabandhu, not any political program. We are not current leaders and activists of BCL. We are the former leaders and activists of the organisation,” the ex-BCL leaders said.
While the university authority responded, Why did you come with the identity of the BCL? Why did not you come with the students’ identity? BCL will not come on the campus. Those who want to come on the campus, who have to come with the identity of former students.
“Despite the university’s specific declaration on banning student politics, former leaders of BCL have held programs at various times. We noticed the indifference of the university administration in this regard. We want a clear statement from the university of it’s concern,” students said.
