Speakers at Gonoshasthaya discussion: Budget to patronise bureaucrats

Staff Reporter: Proposed budget for the year 2021-22 has been prepared for patronizing bureaucrats, speakers of a discussion said it.
“The budget has been prepared specially for the bureaucrats. Tk 30 lakh proposed to allocate for the bureaucrats for buying car with Tk 50,000 to maintain those. As a chartered accountant, the Finance Minister have given privileged to a certain class,” said Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury, Trustee of the Gonoshasthaya trust at the meeting.
The discussion meeting on budget held at the Gonoshasthaya Kendra in the capiatl city.
Dr. Zafrullah as the main speaker of the progarmme said the government had to discuss with common people before preparing the budget.
“It had to prepare for the poor and common people of the country but it did the opposite,” he said.
He asked the government to control medicine market saying it would not enough to reduce price of pharmaceuticals raw material if it handed to the businessmen’s whims.
Economist Dr. Reza Kibria presided over the programme while Media Advisor of Gonoshasthaya, Jahangir Alam Mintu moderated it.
Economist Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman was the Chief Guest in the programme.
Basod General Secretary Comrade Khalequzzaman, Chief Coordinator of Gana Sanghati Andolan Jonaid Saki, Former DUCSU VP Nurul Haque Nur, General Secretary of JSD Shahid Uddin Mahmud Swapan, gave speeches among others.
Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman said, government’s set GDP did not matched with the reality.
He said, “Agriculture and small businesses are contributing our economy mostly. It have to discuss that how much allocations have been proposed for these sectors.”
He said the people have given important on Agriculture and small business allocations.
Dr. Reza Kibria said, the Finance Minister revealed a failed budget proposal.
He protected upper class peoples’ interests, but the reality is there are very few people in the country in that class.
He said that inefficient people has been given responsibilities in health and financial sector in this crises moment which is an offense.
