Budget session prorogued

The 2nd budget session (sixth session) of the 10th parliament was prorogued on Wednesday after 26 sittings that passed the national budget for the 2015-’16 fiscal and five bills.
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury read out the prorogation order of the President around 4:30pm.
A total of 206 MPs –153 from Awami League, 30 from Jatiya Party, five each from Jasod and Workers’ Party, one each from Jatiya Party-JP, BNF and Tarikat Federation, and 10 Independent MPs-took part in the main budget discussion, said the Speaker.
Thirteen MPs joined the discussion on the supplementary budget for the
2014-’15 fiscal, she added. During the 38-day session that began on June 1, some 160 notices were placed Under Section 71 of the Rules of Procedure, of which six were received and three discussed in the House, Shirin noted.
A total of 292 questions were received for the Prime Minister, of which she replied to 63, she mentioned. The 6th session received a total of 4,122 questions for different ministers with the ministers replying to 2,878, the Speaker said.
During the session, Parliament unanimously adopted three resolutions after special discussions, she said.
Saying that both treasury bench and opposition MP joined the budget discussion and were present during the passage of the budget in the House, Dr Shirin said, “Participations of both treasury bench and opposition MPs made the session active.”
