The Jatiya Sangsad (JS) on Sunday passed the Tk 250,506 crore national budget for the 2014-15 fiscal aiming at a higher GDP growth of 7.3 per cent.
The budget was passed by voice votes.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith proposed the budget on June 5 at the JS.
The budget for the new fiscal year that begins from today (Monday) also set the target to bring down the inflation to below 7 per cent.
It is the first budget of the Awami League- led grand alliance government that assumed in power for second-term through January 5 elections.
Before passing the new budget the lawmakers of both ruling and opposition parties discussed the proposed budget for sixty hours.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the opposition leader Rawshan Ershad were present in the House when the budget was passed.
The House also adopted the Appropriation Bill-2014, piloted by the finance minister.
The bill was passed by voice vote today.
Around Tk 382.34 crore grants and allocations have also been passed for 52 ministries and departments.
Earlier, the session resumed at 10am with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
After the resumption of the session, the ministers first joined general question-answer session over the proposed budget for fiscal year 2014-15.
On Saturday, the JS passed the Finance Bill-2014 with several amendments, including amnesty on investing ‘black money’ in real estate.
Opposition and independent MPs proposed 249 cut motions against 56 grants demands of various ministries and divisions. However, the cut motions were scrapped by voice vote.
The 250,506 crore national budget for new fiscal has allocated Tk 80,315 crore for implementing the Annual Development Programme (ADP).
It also set the revenue collection target at Tk 1,82,000 crore which is almost 73 per cent of the budgetary outlay.
The budget for the FY 15 projects a Tk 67,552 crore deficit, which is five per cent of the current GDP.
To finance the budget deficit, the government plans to mobilize Tk 24,275 crore through foreign aid and Tk 31,221 crore from internal sources, including bank borrowing.
The size of the national budget for the 2013-14 was Tk 2,22,491 crore.
