The national budget for fiscal year 2018-19 (FY19) will be a business and investment friendly one as main focus will be made on boosting private investments, said National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan.
“Our main target is to increase business and investment scopes, especially the private investment because if the private investment increases, jobs are created and industrialization takes place,” said the NBR chairman while speaking at a pre budget meeting with Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) on Saturday.
He urged the businesspeople to pay tax properly and said country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is increasing but the amount of money collected as tax is not increasing that means tax is not paid by all properly.
“We’ve to come out from such culture . . . it is the responsibility of all to pay tax properly,” he added.
Bhuiyan said the NBR is thinking to offer some industries including poultry, duty free facilities for the import of raw materials. CCCI proposed taking steps to withdraw tax on the import of raw materials and machinery-parts.
Earlier, the NBR held a pre-budget meeting with Chattogram Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CWCCCI).
CWCCCI leaders proposed increasing the individual tax free income limit of women to Tk 500,000 from the existing Tk 300,000. CCCI president Mahbubul Alam, CWCCI president Manwara Hakim Ali, NBR members Rezaul Hasan, Firoz Shah Alam and Kanan Kumar Roy, among others, attended the meetings.
