Buddhists’ yellow robe offering ceremony held

The yellow robe offering ceremony, one the most sacred festivals of the Buddhists was held at city’s Nandankanan Buddhist Monastery through a daylong programme yesterday.
Minister for Housing and Public Works Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, MP graced the ceremony as the chief guest while Chittagong City Awami League General Secretary and noted sports organiser AJM Nasir Uddin as special guest.
Organised by century-old Bangladesh Buddhist Association (BBA), the function inaugurated by its president Ajit Ranjan Barua at 2pm.
Venerable Dr Dharmasen Mahathero, the highest religious leader of the Supreme Sanga Council (Monastic Order), presided over the function.
Mass congregation, prayer for seeking world peace, chanting of the sacred verses from the Holy Tripitaka, feeding the monks and receptions to the Buddhist students who achieved GPA5 in SSC and HSC examinations in 2014 are the highlights of the daylong programmes.
