BSS, Dhaka :
Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and Dhaka district administration will jointly conduct four mobile courts every day in the capital to check the food adulteration during the Ramzan.
Minister for Industries Amir Hossain Amu told this at a press briefing on the special initiative of the BSTI to control food adulteration during the holy Ramzan at his ministry Thursday.
“The BSTI will carry out mobile court drive at any place in the capital during the month of Ramzan to ensure the food and drinks free from adulteration”, said the minister.
Besides, drives against adulteration will also be conducted throughout the country by the regional offices of BSTI, Amu said.
High officials from the Ministry and BSTI including Industries Secretary M Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, Director-General of BSTI Ikramul Haq and Additional Secretary Susen Chandra Das were present at the briefing.
The mobile team will check the foods and colored juices sold on the streets, said the minister.
The mobile teams during their drives would not consider the ownership of the factories-where the foods and juices are produced, the minister firmly said.
The mobile courts would focus on some particular food items- puffed rice (muri), dates, banana, soft drink powder, fruit juice, edible oil, Ghee, Noodles, Laccha Semai, water and Dextrose Monohydrate.
Samples of 30 food items consumed mostly during the Iftar and Sehri have already been collected from the market and sent for ‘quality test’, he said, adding that this process would continue.
Talking about the BSTI activities on checking the food adulteration, the industries minister said “BSTI conducted 755 mobile courts and filed 1,105 cases during the last eleven and a half months. “All the cases have been disposed of by this time”, the minister added.
