To honor and recognize the top sports personalities of 2015 and 2016, the Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA) Sports award will be given in a fabulous award giving ceremony scheduled to be held on Monday (January 30) at city’s local hotel at 3.30 pm.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith will present in the ceremony as the chief guest.
For the first time, the name of the top sports persons of the two years will be named on the award day. However, three names were shortlisted for the year’s best sports person award 2015 and 2016.
For the best sportsperson award 2015, cricketer Mahmudullah Riyad, Soumya Sarkar and Mustafizur Rahman were shortlisted while swimmer Mahfuza Khatun Shila, cricketer Tamim Iqbal Khan and hockey striker Ashraful Islam were shortlisted for 2016.
For 2015, Mahmudullah Riyad will be awarded as the best cricketer, M Fahad Rahman as best chess player, Tamimul Islam as best archer, footballer Sarwar Jaman Nipu as the best rising player, Yusuf Ali as best organiser, Syed Golam Zilani as best coach, Max Group as best sponsor while Aminul Haque Moni will be given special award.
For 2016, Tamim Iqbal Khan will be awarded as the best cricketer, Mabia Akter Shimanta as best weightlifter, Ashraful Islam as best hockey player, Shakil Ahmed as best shooter, Sayeed Al Zabir as best volleyball player, Mehedi Hasan Miraz as best rising player, Krishna Rani Sarker as best woman rising player, Golam Rabbani Choton as best coach, Tarafdar M Ruhul Amin as best organiser and Bangladesh Navy as best organisation.
Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA) Sports Award is the earliest sports award in the country that was initiated in 1968. Once it was regarded as the national sports award before initiation of the national sports award.
