The authorities of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) observed the Martyred Intellectuals Day on Saturday with due respect and in a befitting manner.
Marking the day, Vice Chancellor (acting) of the university Prof Dr Md. Shahjahan paid tribute to the martyred intellectuals by placing a floral wreath at the Gopalganj District Shaheed Memorial at 9.00am along with teachers, students, officers and employees of the university.
They also laid another wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar of BSMRSTU at 9.30am. After placing the wreath, they observed one-minute silence and prayed for the eternal peace of the martyred intellectuals.
Later, a memorial meeting was held at the academic building of the university at 10.00 am with the VC Prof Dr Md. Shahjahan (acting).
University Proctor Dr MdRaziur Rahman, Bijoy Dibos Hall Provost and chairman of Dept of Pharmacy Md. Shafiqul Islam, Bangla Department Chairman Md. Abdur Rahim along with other teachers and students took part in the meeting.
During the event, the speakers remembered the martyred intellectuals for their contributions to the country. Speaking as the president of the meeting, Prof Dr Md. Shahjahan urged everyone to be united with the spirit of Liberation War.
