The authorities of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) have said they are going to submit its report on the performance study of the Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK) developed Covid-19 antibody test kit this week.
The report will be submitted to the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) within a couple of days.
On Saturday, BSMMU Vice Chancellor Prof Kanak Kanti Barua told Dhaka Tribune: “The committee, formed to conduct the performance study of the rapid testing kit, will submit the report to me first.
“Then, it will be sent to the DGDA. I think we can submit the report at the end of this week, on Wednesday or Thursday,” he added.
Gonoshasthaya Kendra officials said they are eagerly waiting for the report to be submitted to the DGDA and subsequent final approval for using the kit on a mass level.
Dr Mohib Ullah Khondoker, coordinator of GR Covid-19 Rapid Dot Blot Project, said the sooner it gets final approval, the better it would be for people.
On March 17, Gonoshasthaya Kendra declared that its sister concern Gonoshasthaya-RNA Biotech Limited developed the GR Covid-19 Rapid Antibody Dot Test kit that can examine samples to detect coronavirus infection within 15 minutes.
On April 30, the DGDA permitted Gonoshasthaya Kendra to get its rapid testing kits tested.
On May 2, the BSMMU authorities formed a six-member committee to conduct the performance study of the testing kits after the organization approached them.
