BSMMU prison cell becomes resort for VIP inmates: ACC lawyer

Anti-Corruption Commission lawyer at the Supreme Court on Wednesday said that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University prison cell had become a resort for the ‘VIP inmates’, reports BSS.
‘They (VIPs) become sick as soon as they land in jail. They come to BSMMU prison cell for the treatment. Now the situation is like that the prison cell has become a resort for them. We have to stop this practice,’ said Khurshid Alam Khan, a senior advocate of the ACC.
The ACC lawyer said these while taking part in the hearing on a plea to form medical board for the treatment of Destiny Group president lieutenant general (retired) Harun-Ar-Rashid, who is in jail in a case for money embezzlement and laundering, at the High Court Division bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo.
Harun-Ar-Rashid, who was convicted and sentenced to four-year jail and fined Taka 1.50 crore in the case on May 12, filed the plea on June 28.
The High Court, after holding hearing on the matter, allowed the plea on Wednesday.
