Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) has planned to give free health services to freedom fighters, their wives, children and parents.
“We took the initiative to show respect to the freedom fighters for their glorious contribution to the Liberation War as they will not be deprived of health services for money,” Pro-Vice Chancellor of BSMMU Prof. Dr Shahidullah Sikder told BSS.
“Not only the freedom fighters, but also their wives, sons, daughters and parents will be brought under the free service net,” he said, adding, “A bed and two cabins will be preserved for them at each department of the university.”
The BSMMU authority formed a committee, headed by Prof. Dr Shahidullah Sikder, to formulate a policy to this end and it would be finalized soon.
“All sorts of surgeries including critical one will be offered to the freedom fighters free of cost,” Prof Shahidullah said, adding that “Many medical tests of freedom fighters are being conducted at the BSMMU free of cost while they will go for other tests here at 40 percent off.”
The BSMMU authority has planned to form a fund to give assistance to the freedom fighters in conducting different tests, buying medicines and medical equipments.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Hoque donated Taka 20 lakh to give the freedom fighters free health services.
