The Institute of Paediatric Neurodisorder and Autism (IPNA) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Saturday observed the World Cerebral Palsy Day.The World Cerebral Palsy Day is a movement of people with CP (Cerebral Palsy) and their families, and the organisations that support them, in more than 65 countries.
The vision of the day is to ensure that children and adults with CP have the same rights, access and opportunities as anyone else in the society. A colorful rally, led by BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Kanak Kanti Barua, was brought out from E-block of the university at 9 am and it ended at the Bottola after parading different points of the campus. IPNA organised a scientific seminar at its seminar room. IPNA Director Prof Dr Shaheen Akhter and Prof Dr Shahidur Rahman of IPNA jointly presented a keynote paper on ‘A Holistic Approach to Cerebral Palsy’. BSMMU Deputy Director (admin) Dr Gopen Kumar Kundu and its Deputy Director (academic) Dr Kaniz Fatema were, among others, present at the seminar.
The speakers said the injury usually occurs when the brain is growing rapidly in mother’s womb, during birth or the first few years of life.
