Bangladesh Shrimp and Fish Foundation (BSFF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations University-Fisheries Training Programme (UNU-FTP) on Tuesday.
Under the MOU, both the parties would cooperate with each other in building capacity in the fisheries sector in Bangladesh, says a press release.
Syed Mahmudul Haq, chairman of BSFF and Tumi Tomasson, director of UNU-FTP, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations at Reykjavik, Iceland.
Mr. Stefen S. Gudjnsson, Honorary Consul General of Bangladesh in Iceland and Mr. Ashraf Hossain Masud, Vice- President, Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exporters’ Association (BFFEA) signed the MOU as witnesses.
Md. Shawakat Ali Waresi, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, and Ashraf Ali, Project Director of the SwissContact -backed Agribusiness for Trade Competitiveness Project, were also present on the occasion.
A four-member Bangladesh delegation led by additional secretary of the Ministry of Commerce is now in Iceland to identify possible areas of cooperation and collaboration between Iceland and Bangladesh.
Under the MOU, the UNU-FTP will provide fellowships for 2 to 3 fisheries professionals from Bangladesh per year to participate in six-month post-graduate training in Iceland during 2014 – 2019.
Under agreement, the UNU-FTP and BSFF will cooperate in providing training for students at the MSc and PhD levels as well.
