Md Joynal Abedin Khan :
At least 88 goats were burn to death in a devastating fire that was allegedly set by unidentified miscreants centering prior enmity with a breeding farm authorities in Char Mirkamari area under Iswardi upazila of Pabna district early Sunday.
The estimated loss in the fire is over Tk 10 lakh, the farm authorities claimed.
The fire at the farm — New Era Foundation — was a part of revenge as some members of local goons threatened few months ago the farm authorities as they failed to realize their extortion demand, Mostafa Ahmed, Coordinator of New Era Foundation, told The New Nation on Sunday. The officials of Power Development Board (PDB) in Pabna who visited the firm confirmed that the flames might have been originated from petrol fire, not electric short-circuit or malfunction, Mostafa said.
He said that faeces (litter) and the ceiling (roof) of the farm burnt in the few minutes as miscreants used petrol or gun powder before set to fie in the dairy farm.
They entered the farm by cutting the iron-wire fence in the East side of the farm, he added.
Manjur Rahman Biswas, former MP and Director of New Era Foundation, said that the miscreants showed the heinous acts with the goats, though the beneficiaries are mainly helpless women.
He also claimed that the goats were burnt alive as victim of prior enmity.
Iswardi police said they have visited the spot and investigating the incident with giving the level best priority.
A General Diary (GD) has been filed with Iswardi Police Station in this connection.
