An untitled Bruce Lee bio-pic is in development with the star’s family being closely involved in the project.
The plan regarding the bio-pic was revealed by the martial artist’s daughter Shannon Lee, saying that Bruce Lee Entertainment would produce alongside Lawrence Grey and Janet Yang, reported Deadline.
“There have been projects out there involving my father, but they’ve lacked a complete understanding of his philosophies and artistry. They haven’t captured the essence of his beliefs in martial arts or storytelling. The only way to get
audiences to understand the depth and uniqueness of my father is to generate our own material and find amazing, like-minded partners to work with,” Shannon said in a statement.
“Many don’t know that Bruce Lee was also a prolific writer and a creator of his own unique art and philosophy. That’s what we want to show – not just his kick-ass physicality, but the depth of his character and beliefs,” she added.
Bruce Lee passed away in 1973. Prior to his untimely death at the age of 32, Lee’s popularity skyrocketed following his performances in Fist of Fury, Way of the Dragon, and Enter the Dragon among others.
Bruce Lee Entertainment is also working on other martial arts-themed projects apart from the Bruce Lee bio-pic. They are developing a TV series based on an original idea and materials by Bruce Lee with Fast and Furious 6 director Justin Lin as well as a reality-based show to launch in China with Keanu Reeves and Stephen Hamel of Company Films.
