Harvest Plus is working with BRRI released bio-fortified zinc rice for its dissemination among the farmers to reduce hidden hunger in collaboration with GO and NGO partners in Bangladesh.
It distributed seeds of BRRI dhan62 a bio-fortified zinc rice among the selected farmers throughout the country.
In Rajshahi and Naogaon region Harvest Plus is doing this job in collaboration with CCDB which is implementing 450 demonstration plots of zinc rice in this Aman season. Director General of BRRI Dr. Jiban Krishna Biswas has recently visited these zinc rice field in Manda, Naogaon.
He said , being the 100 days’ crop just after harvesting farmers can easily go for early robi crops like potato and mustard, moreover this rice contains higher level of zinc which is essential for human body.
He also gave some suggestions to the farmers regarding rice cultivation. During his field visit Agricultural Research and Development officer Zakiul Hasan of Harvest Plus, CCDB Agriculture camp; Seed Promotion Manager Shamiran Biswas, Area Coordinator Mr. Rangit Kumar Shaha, Branch Manager Lal Mohan, SAAOs from DAE, TV, prints; electronic media and many farmers were present.
