Brothers Union Club Limited upset Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited by 3-2 goals in the Group A match of KFC Independence Cup Football held on Thursday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
With the day’s defeat Mohammedan, the defending champions, crashed out of the competition with six points from five matches. Brothers also completed their campaign with six points from five outings.
After the lemon break, Mannaf Rabby broke the deadlock putting Brothers Union ahead in the 51st minute with a header when he headed home of cross from Ghanaian midfielder Awudu Ibrahim that was curved from the left flank (1-0).
Mannaf Rabby again doubled the lead scoring his second goal in the 53rd minute. This time taking a deflection of Nkowcha Kingsley, Mannaf Rabby hit the far post net from the right edge of the box(2-0).
Mohammedan pulled one back in the 54th minute through their forward Tawhidul Alam Shabuz who capitalized the late reaction of Brothers defence and placed the ball home at the middle of box(2-1).
The tradition black & white Motijheel ‘outfit’ restored the parity in the 65th minute through their forward Biplu Ahmed. Forward Tawhidul Alam Shabuz sent a square pass to unmark Biplu who placed the ball into the net (2-2).
Ghanaian forward Awudu Ibrahim sealed the victory for all orange Gopibagh ‘outfit’ in the 75th minute. This time he beat Mohammedan custodian M Nehal from almost zero angle at the left hand post (3-2).
