Brothers Union Club and Chittagong Abahani played out to a 1-1 goal draw in the group D match of Modhumoti Bank Independence Cup Football on Monday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
In the day’s match, the all orange Gopibagh ‘outfit’ went ahead in 22nd minute after new midfielder Chimezie Mike sent a long ball from the midfield and midfielder Jewel Rana took the control of the ball at the left edge of the box, he cut a square pass to onrushing Rubel Miah who gently placed the ball into the open near post (1-0).
Chittagong Abahani fought back in the match in the 38th minute as Guinean forward Ousmane Cherif scored the equalizer with a powerful shot from 20 yards (1-1).
In the 42nd minute Chittagong Abahani forward Sohel Mia made his way through the Brothers Union defence but the shot went outside net.
In the dying stage of the second half, Brothers Union forward Abdul Malek failed to score on a one to one situation despite finding Chittagong Abahani goalie Nahiduddin helpless under the bar.
