Two persons, including father and son, were shot dead during a clash over fishing in a pond near their home at Satkania upazila in Chittagong district on Saturday afternoon.
The victims were identified as Hazi Idris and his son Jahidul Islam, hailing from Khagaria union in the upazila. Md Bachchu, brother of Hazi Idris, allegedly conducted the killing mission. He has been absconding just after the incident, police said. Superintendent of Police in Chittagong, AKM Hafiz Akter, told The New Nation last night that the clash ensued when Jahidul was locked in an altercation with his paternal uncle Shafiqul Islam over catching fish near Nuru Market at Khagaria at about 4.00pm.
At one stage, Shafiqul fired shots from his gun targeting both Idris and his son, leaving Idris dead on the spot. Fatally injured Jahidul succumbed to his injuries at Satkania Upazila Health Complex, said the SP.
A tense situation was prevailing in the area following the double murder. A team of police, led by Officer-in -Charge of Satkania police station Md Farid Uddin Khandakar, was sent to the spot to prevent any untoward situation.
When contacted, OC Md Farid Uddin said, “There was a long-standing feud between the two brothers centering fishing in a pond. We have already recovered the bodies and sent them to hospital for autopsy. We are trying to nab the absconding killer.” Officer-in -Charge of Char Jabbar police station told The New Nation yesterday, “So far we think, Sanjoy chopped to death his wife and son in a stage of their quarrel over some family matters. They had been in a squabble for a long time.”
Lucky received fatal injuries when Sanjoy stabbed her indiscriminately. Her son Hari Chandra Nath was also critically injured at that time. Locals rushed them to nearby Upazila Health Complex in a critical condition, he said.
The injured mother and child succumbed to their injuries in the early Saturday. Police said a case was filed with the concerned police station in this connection.
