A court in Chittagong convicted Md. Nurul Amin(36) with death penalty for killing his sister . Judge of Chittagong Divisional Tribunal Muhitul Hoque Enam Chowdhury announced this verdict yesterday . Court sources said convict Nurul Amin hails from Omkhali village of Chokoria upazila under Cox’s Bazar district , son of late Kalimdad Fakir brutally killed his elder sister Jahanara Begum(50) by chopping over a family feud on November 16, 2008 .
Since the killing incident, Nurul Amin remains fugitive. PP of the Special Divisional tribunal Advocate Md. Ayub Khan told that after taking depositions of 11 witnesses, court convicted the fugitive with capital punishment under section 320 of BPC .
4 held with firearms: Police in separate drives arrested four persons with three firearms and ammunitions from different areas of the city early Tuesday. The detained were identified as Abul Kashem, 28, Zamal Hossain, 35 and Abul Kalam, 36. They all hailed from city’s Akbar Shah area and Selim Uddin,42, is a resident of Rangunia upazila of the district.
Based on secret information, a team of police from Akbarshah Thana held three men from a model industrial area after searching an industrial plot under Akbarshah thana at night.
Later, police recovered a foreign made pistol, a single shooter gun and four cartridges after searching the body of Kalam and Zamal. In another drive, Chandgaon thana police arrested Selim from a Chittagong-bound passenger bus from Kaptai with a foreign made one shooter gun.
Separate cases were filed with respective police stations in this connection.
