Brokers still active in Khulna govt hospitals

Brokers’ syndicates are still active in all government hospitals in Khulna city and at nine upazila health complexes in Khulna district.
 Though some outside brokers were arrested by the members of elite force RAB, but the main culprits, the staff brokers including nurses and store -In charges of different hospitals and upazila health complexes are yet to be untouched, sources alleged.
It is mentionable that several brokers’ syndicates in collaboration with the staffs, nurses and store staffs have been committing their brisk business (Brokery business) since long. Now and then some outside brokers are arrested by the members of Rab-6, but the main culprits, i,e the staff brokers and nurses have been saving themselves from arrest, sources further said. Even some doctors are allegedly involved in the brisk business of brokery who often reportedly send patients to their private clinics.
Recently, a mobile court, comprising with the members of RAB-6, launched a drive at Shahid Sheikh Abu Naser Specialized Hospital, arrested 11 brokers and awarded imprisonment and fine.
The arrested brokers are- Beauty,35, daughter of Abdul Kuddus Molla of Khalishpur Mujgunni area, Taslima, 40, wife of Jamal Khan of the same area, Lipi, 20, daughter of Sultan, Josna Begum, 35, daughter of Sultan Sheikh of Mujgunni North Para, Rezia Begum, 45, daughter of Munsef Molla, Lima Akter, 25, daughter of Shamsu Molla of Daulatpur Deana area, Shourav Chowdhury, 29, son of Yunus Ali of Sonadanga Bosupara area, Jamaluddin, 42, son of Abdur Rashid of Khalishpur Housing Estate area, Shamim Hossain, 23, son of Shahjahan Morol of Khalishpur area, Champa Begum,25, wife of Abbas Ali of Khalishpur Goalkhali area and Rashida,48, daughter of Abdul Barek Mridha of the same area.
Among the arrestees Beauty, Taslima and Lipi were awarded 15 days imprisonment each , Josna, Rezia and Lima were awarded 7 days imprisonment each and five others (Shourav, Jamal,Shamim, Champa and Rashida were fined Taka 9 thousand each.
The learned Executive Magistrate of Khulna District administration Md. Rashedul Islam awarded the above-mentioned punishments to the convicted brokers.
During the operation, additional police super who is also CPC special Commandar of Rab-6 Md. Enayet Hossain Mannan and his cohorts were present.
The five acuused persons who were awarded imprisonment, were sent to jail and realized taka of fine from six others were deposited to the government treasury, sources said.
On the next day, on March 19, 2018, another drive was launched by the members of Rab-6 at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) while three brokers were arrested who were attempting to take away patients from the hospital.
The arrestees are-Mukta Khatun, 38, wife of Mostafizur Rahman, Rahima Begum, 40, wife of Yunus Kazi and Shahinur Begum, 45, wife of late Robiul Sheikh.
The arrested persons were handed over to Sonadanga police station and later they were sent to jail.
CPC Special Commandar Md. Enayet Hossain Mannan told the journalists that some broker-syndicates had been committing their brisk business at Khulna government hospitals for a long time who had been realizing money dishonestly by committing brokery business who work at different private hospitals and clinics in the city.
It is mentionable in this connection that a mobile court led by the executive Magistrate Md. Al Mamun awarded punishment to 22 brokers including a diagnostic center owner after launching a drive along with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-6) on Monday at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH).
During the operation by the mobile court, 19female and 3 male brokers were arrested who were identified as Laylee Begum, 42, Ranu Begum, 30, Farida Begum,30, Momtaj Begum,42, Nasima Begum,28, Sumi,30, Shafi Begum,55, Romina Begum,40, Salma,30, Sabina Begum,40, Munni Begum,35, Kajol,30, Khadiza Begum,45, Fatema Begum,35, Shapna,30, Rabeya Begum,40, Meherun Nesa,40, Ruma, 35, Farida,30, Md. Ripon,33, Diagnostic Center Owner Md. Selim Sheikh, Canteen owner Md. humayun Kabir.
Among the arrested persons , Md. Selim Sheikh, proprietor of Sugandha Diagnostic Center was awarded 15 days imprisonment and fined Taka 50 thousands and 15 days more imprisionment in default to pay the fine, Farida was awarded 10 days imprionment,18 brokers were awarded seven days Rigorous Imprisonment, Humayun Kabir, Canteen owner was fined Taka 50 thousands and Ruma, another broker who has a kid, was fined Taka two thousands.
Md.Enayet Hossain Mannan, special company commander of RAB-6 told the journalists that at least 300 brokers are active still surrounding Khulna Medical College Hospital. He said adding that if any staff of the hospital are involved in the misdeeds including sale of government medicine to outside markets and taking away patients from the hospital to the private clinics and diagnostic centers, stern action would also be taken against those staffs.
Sensing the presence of the mobile court, assisted by the members of the elite force RAB, some staff-brokers fled away from the scene, RAB sources said.
It is also mentionable in this connection that on September 14, 2017, members of RAB-6 conducted drive and arrested eight brokers.
One Shahidul Islam, resident of Dumuria area told this correspondent that he had taken his cousin Shariful Islam to this (KMCH) hospital, but some brokers took away them to a private clinic tempting to give better treatment while they had to expend around Taka 5000 for different tests.
Another female patient Kulsum Begum, hailing from a remote village in Koyra Upazila area recently came to KMCH for getting treatment, at that time a nurse named Nargis wanted her taka 2000 alluring her for the better treatment and tempted her to give bed in the hospital.
