Broccoli farming gaining popularity in Gopalganj Sadar, Tungipara UZs

Broccoli farming origin ‘Green carpet’ is gaining popularity among the remote farmers of Sadar and Tungipara Upazila in the district this current years as the farmers benefited from its to sale the local market.
Rejia Begum (45), female farmers of village Khatra under Sadar Upazila in the district told The New Nation. she cultivated Broccoli origin ‘Green carpet’ on 52 decimal of land this current year. The growth condition of its is satisfactory if the weather condition is remain unchanged but she will sell in local markets about taka 1,80,000 where invest about taka 50,000 she said, Brocolli vegetable is huge demand in local markets & price is satisfactory, one stage Rejia added during visit her field.
Mondira Halder, Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer (SAAO), Borashi union under Sadar Upazila in Gopalganj told The New Nation. Broccoli vegetable cultivation is profitable vegetable crop for remote farmers in this region and day by day increasing this Broccoli farming. Because this vegetable farming need for small investment and the growers can harvest it in a short duration only 75 to 80 days, SAAO said.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Official sources said, a total of 25 hectors of land have been brought under Broccoli farming origin ‘Green carpet’ under Sadar & Tungipara upazila in Gopalganj district of them 20 hectors in Tungipara upazila. Where about 400 farmers involved this green carpet Broccoli cultivation this current year.
Rabin Biswas (50) another farmer of village Mitradanga under Tungipara Upazila in the district said, he cultivated Broccoli origin ‘Green carpet’ on 50 decimal of land this current season and I have start harvest it from last week and it current market price is satisfactory per kg. Broccoli is being selling at the rate of taka 40 to taka 45 in local markets. One stage Rabin said, if the climate is remain unchanged but I will got 3.6 tonnes of Broccoli from it produce and which market price is about taka 1,70,000 to taka 1,75,000 and investment taka only 50,000, Rabin said.
Jamal Uddin, Upazila Agriculture Office (UAO), Tungipara told The New Nation. soil & weather condition is favourable for farming of Broccoli vegetable and farmers in this region is so much energetic too and recently growers in this areas more involved on this Broccoli vegetable farming and they are benefitted from the farming, UAO said.
Monoranjan Halder (48) a farmer of village Mitradanga of Juaria union under Tungipara upazila in the district said, he cultivated Broccoli origin ‘Green carpet’ on 20 decimal of land near his residence the condition of its growth is good but I will got a good profit from it produce to sale the markets and huge demand its in local markets & price is high, Monoranjan added.
Ramesh Chandra Bramha, Deputy Director (DD), Agriculture, Gopalganj told The New Nation. huge bright possibility for farming on Broccoli origin ‘Green carpet’ in this region and its huge demand in local markets on the other hand out field workers always communicate to remote farmers on this cultivation. Besides they distribute high quality of seeds among the farmers of the other hand district level Krishi Bank distributed short & middle term small Agri loan among the farmers of success the Rabi farming (vegetable) programme, DD added.
