Even before the start of the Holy month of Ramadan, brinjal is being sold at Tk 100 per kilo taking the advantage of the consumers extra passion for the said vegetable.
On the other hand, other daily essentials’ prices remain stable in the market.
After visiting few kitchen markets in the capital on Friday it was seen that the vegetable traders are selling brinjal at Tk 100 per kg.
About high price of the brinjal, Khilgaon vegetables trader Juwel Rana said the egg plant is selling with high price due to Holy Ramadan. The egg plant high price will remain for few days, and then it will fall.
Kawran Bazar businessman Hasan Sardar said the demand of brinjal is getting high whereas the supply is low. As a result, the price of egg plant is showing upward trend.
He further said this situation won’t stay long.
On the other hand, the Drum Stick which was selling at Tk 200 to Tk 250 one week earlier now is being sold Tk 100 to Tk 150 and tomato is selling at low price as per kg is being sold at Tk 20 to Tk 30 whereas one week before it was Tk 40 to Tk 50.
The onion has been added in the list of price reducing items as per kg ‘Muri Kata’ onion is being sold at Tk 30 whereas one week before it was selling at Tk 40 and imported onion is being sold Tk 40 and earlier it was Tk 60 to Tk 65.
The bottle gourd was selling at Tk 50 to 60 at Karwan Bazar. Cauliflower, broccoli and cabbages were selling at Tk 40
to Tk 50 per piece based on its size and quality.
Good quality of bean was selling at Tk 40 to 60 per kg, while long bean at Tk 50 to Tk 60 per kg, pumpkin at Tk 70 per kg, bean seed at Tk 80 per kg, papaya at Tk 30 to Tk 35 per kg, green chilli at Tk 80 to Tk 90 per kg, potato (new) at Tk 15 to Tk 20, the local variety of newly-harvested a bit higher, carrot at Tk 50 to Tk 60 per kg based on size and quality, okra at Tk 80 per kg, ash-guard at Tk 70 to Tk 80 per piece and tomato at Tk 40 to Tk50.
Leafy vegetables, such as spinach, were selling at Tk 15 to Tk 20 per bundle, red spinach at Tk 10 to Tk 15, green spinach at Tk 20 per bundle and coriander leaves at Tk 120 per kg.
About poultry meat, the prices of broiler chicken was Tk 170 to Tk 175 per kg, layer chicken Tk 245 a kg, while the prices of Pakistani cock or golden chicken rose from Tk 310 to Tk 340 per kg.
The egg is being sold at Tk 110.
Meanwhile, beef is selling for the usual price of Tk 650 per kg. The price of red meat has seen an increase of Tk 50 in the last month and is now about Tk 800.
In the fish market, Rohit and Carp were sold at Tk 250-350 a kg, Walking fish at Tk 500-600, Telapia and Pangas at Tk 150-170.
Besides, a Hilsha weighing one and a half kilogram is being sold at Tk 1,000-1200 per kg while smaller size at Tk 500-600 only, while shrimp at Tk 600-650 only. The cat fish was selling at Tk 400 to 450 at Baganbari, South Goran on Friday, taki mach at Tk 350, Papda at Tk 400 and boal mach at Tk 600 only.
