A parliamentary watchdog has advised the government to bring back the prime suspect in Narayanganj seven murder Nur Hossain immediately from India.
The parliamentary standing committee on home ministry on Wednesday discussed the arrest of Nur Hossain in India at a meeting.
Committee chairperson Tipu Munshi told reporters after the meeting that the process of bringing the fugitive back from India might take some time.
“We have discussed whether we could send
people to India to interrogate him there. But the committee has emphasised that he should be brought back as early as possible,” he said.
Absconding Narayanganj councillor Nur Hossain, prime accused in seven-murder case, was booked by West Bengal police under Arms Act and Foreigners Act for illegally trespassing into Indian territory without valid travel documents and for illegal possession of a weapon.
Tipu Munshi said it would take some time for Nur’s trial to be completed in India.
He said the charges made by West Bengal police were lesser crimes.
“So we’ve asked the home ministry to coordinate with the foreign ministry and try to bring him back as soon as possible,” he added.
The foreign ministry wrote to the Indian authorities seeking details on Nur’s arrest and his extradition process.
