There is a bright possibility of cultivating a variety of nutrients of different and foreign fruit, dragon fruit in Saidpur of Nilphamari. Two agriculture block of Kamarpukur union are cultivating dragon fruit. Already the cultivation of dragon fruit yields expected yield.
Upazila Agriculture Department sources said that at Kamarpukur Union of Saidpur Upazila have been cultivating dragon fruits. The interest of cultivating dragon fruit is widely spreading among the people of the area. Thinking and knowing about the nutrients of the fruit from internet, Ahsan-ul-Haq Babu started cultivating dragon fruit. Now it has opened a door for the cultivators of this fruit. They are expecting a huge profit from this. As a result many new cultivators are showing their interest. They are buying lands and taking other measures in order to cultivate dragon fruits. According to them it is very profitable business as a dragon fruit tree yields fruit for 20/22 years. So they are optimistic that as the expenditure will come in a few years. If it is cultivated properly with organic manure and proper care, the fruit will come within 11 months of planting.
Saidpur Upazila Agriculture Officer Homaira Mondol said that the weather and soil here are very useful for dragon fruit farming. As a result, there is a great potential for cultivating Dragon fruit. Meanwhile, two agricultural houses of Kamarpukur Union of this Upazila have been cultivating dragon fruits. In the beginning, it is yielding good results. Although the dragon is foreign fruit, it has a bright prospect of cultivation. She also said that this fruit is very less known to the common man. So there is some problem with marketing the fruits. We are working on the development and production of Dragon Fruit from the Department of Agricultural Extension. It is being intrigued to eat people. Hopefully, the problem of the marketing of dragon fruit will be removed soon. She expressed hope that the farmers would benefit by cultivating this fruit.
