Traffic movement on the Bhaberhat-Tewariganj Road has remained stopped since Thursday night as a sand-laden truck fell in a ditch after a bridge collapsed there on Thursday night.
Local Union Parishad (UP) Member Faruk Hossen said the bridge near the Bhaberhat Bazaar has become worn out due to lack of necessary maintenance for long, and as a result the incident happened. Tewariganj UP Chairman Mokhlseur Rahman Harun said he visited the spot on Thursday night and informed the higher authority. Engineer of Laxmipur Sadar Upazila Aminur Rosul said since the bridge and the road are under Water Development Board (WDB), they have nothing to do.
While contacted through mobile phone, Member of Parliament of Laxmipur Sadar Constituency AKM Shahjahan Kamal said after hearing the news he directed executive engineer of Laxmipur WDB to take necessary measures and hoped that the crisis would be solve soon.
