An important iron bridge constructed over a canal just in front of Sharankhola Upazila Parishad in Bagerhat district was collapsed recently.
It was repaired only one year ago. As a result, people who are to go to the Upazila Parishad for official purposes are suffering a lot . Not only that but also the students of different educational institutions are suffering untold inconveniences to attend their classes. At present they are to cross about 2 kilometers path more in stead of a few yards in order to go to their educational institutions.
The bridge on the canal separates Rayenda (Sadar) union from Khontakata union was suddenly collapsed on Wednesday in the morning. But fortunately no untoward incident happened. Sharankhola Upazila Parishad is situated on the one bank of the canal and a Govt. Primary School, a Madrsa and a Yatimkhna were situated on the other bank of the canal. It is reported that the people of Khada, Malyea, Dakkhin Rajapur, Uttar Rajapur, Rasulpur, Bholarpar, Sonatala, Uttar Tafalbari etc. villages are to cross the bridge in order to go to the Upazila Parishad for official purposes.
On the other hand, hundred of students are to cross the bridge in order to attend to their educational institutions situated on the other bank of the canal. For want of bridge they are now suffering untold inconveniences.
Nasim Talukdar, an inhabitant of the locality and a local UP member told the newsmen that the local people and the students were in great trouble to attend to the office and educational institutions respectively for collapsing the bridge.
Asaduzzaman Milon, Chairman of Rayenda (Sadar) Union Parishad and Khan Motiur Rahman, Chairman of Khontakata Union Parishad told the newsmen, considering the sufferings of the students and the general people the authorities concerned should construct a pucca (RCC) bridge over the canal in stead of the iron bridge immediately.
Ruhul Haq, Engineer of Sharankhola Upazila Parishad disclosed to the newsmen, the bridge is included under the Union Development Infrastructures (Khulna, Bagerhat and Satkhira) Project. By this time soil-test of the place was already done. After receiving the (soil-test) report the estimate will be prepared and it will be sent to the headquarters for its approval.
