 People of 40 villages in Juri Upazila of the Moulvibazar district are suffering as a bridge collapsed on Friday night has not been repaired yet.
 It broken another time on last 30th march and repaired it. On a visit to the spot yesterday, this correspondent saw that the bridge over Ratura canal in Gualbari union had collapsed on Friday night.
Miftha Ahmed Liton, President of Protthoy Foundation said, more than 40 villages use this bridge every day with difficulty. Around seven educational institutes including three government primary schools situated near it.
 He said, a vehicle was trapped on bridge. In this regards thousands vehicles stopped different sides.
Locals informed the RHD authorities about the broken bridge, but is yet to get a response.
Headmaster of Huson Ali High School Biresh Rudro Paul said most of the students come to school by crossing the bridge. The authorities should set up a new bridge as soon as possible. A Class V student at the Gualbari govt primary school Azizul Islam said he feels afraid when he crosses the bridge every day with his schoolmates.
Chandon Das, 45, a Gualbari villager, said there are about 400 families and their livelihood depends on the bridge as they use it to carry their produce and goods to the markets.
 Abdul Motlib of neighbor of Chandon said the bridge has become almost unusable for vehicular movement as well as pedestrians as huge potholes and cracks have developed after completion of the repair work ten months, causing immense sufferings to its users, especially school and college going children.
Due to use of sub-standard materials many potholes and cracks have developed on the bridge only a weak after that portion of the bridge was repaired, many locals alleged.
CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Nazrul Islam said they have to face tremendous trouble while bridge collapsed.
 Moin Mia, a resident of Lathitila village, said due to the collapse, traffic movements on the road remained suspended for the day and many vehicles remained stranded on either side of the bridge, causing immense sufferings to its users.
Meanwhile, the authorities concerned are yet to take steps to remove the broken vehicle from the spot and repair the bridge to restore road links, Moin said.
Zahangir Hosain Sardar, officer-in-charge of Juri police station said the road caved in due to heavy pressure of a truck cross the bridge.
Although the authorities concerned hung a cautionary signboard beside the bridge, heavy vehicles kept using it, ignoring the warning, which eventually led to its collapse, the OC said.
Sohodeb Sutradhor, Deputy Engineer of Roads and Highway in Juri Upazila said, they started the repair work of the collapsed bridge andremoving the truck as soon as possible.
