A Mobile Court conducted by Md. Nur-e-Alam Siddiquey, UNO (Upazila Nirbahi Officer) and Executive Magistrate of Sharankhola in Bagerhat district convicted a bridegroom and his two relatives and sentenced them to suffer simple imprisonment for six months on the charge of attempt to marry a minor girl at the village Chalitabunia under the Upazila on Saturday noon under Anti-Child Marriage Act of 2007. The convicted bridegroom is Md. Jubair Islam, son of one Zihadul Islam of village Hoglapati under Mathbaria Upazila in Pirojpur district and the two others convicted persons are Nuruzzaman Fakir and Badal Talukdar are paternal and maternal uncles of the bridegroom respectively.
It is learnt from a source of the Upazila Nirbahi Office of Sharankhola that the convicted bridegroom and his two uncles came to Chalitabunia village under the Upazila on Saturday noon to marry Lamia (17), daughter of one Rafiqul Islam of the village.
